Social Care Skills
A performance-based learning module created to help social care practitoners improve their client awareness.

The Challenge

My client identified a learning opportunity for her team of social care workers to adopt a more client-centric approach to their work. A needs analysis exercise revealed that the learning gap was due to pressures of the job, high caseloads and excessive paperwork. However, a repeating factor was limited client awareness.
The Solution

After storyboarding some ideas and successfully trialing a prototype module, I created an online learning programme dedicated to increasing client awareness through a series of scenario-based challenges. Learners were asked to make critical decisions for a number of fictitious clients. Each decision they made ultimately influenced their clients' wellness. Ongoing feedback on their performance enriched the learning journey.
The Result

The learners commended the programme for its authenticity and delicate balance of challenge and reward. After completing the programme, 83% of learners 'strongly agreed' that their client awareness had significantly increased. The programme was incorporated into the organisation's Learning Management System and made available to all employees in client-facing roles.
