Plastic Waste Awareness

Helping secondary school students to gain awareness about the problem of plastic waste.

The Challenge

A challenge that faces us all - reducing the amount of harm caused to our natural environment by plastic waste. The target audience was a group of secondary school students undertaking a study into human habits and their impact on our planet.

The Solution

As part of a blended learning approach, I created an elearning module designed to achieve two key objectives:

1. Raise awareness around the scale of the problem of plastic waste

2. Trigger habit changes around the use (and reuse) of plastic products

As many of the students enjoyed gaming, the learning was gamified to enhance the learning through challenge and reward.

The Result

The learning was extremely well received with many of the students requesting that the module was made available to their immediate family members. Approximately three months after their studies were complete, 85% of students  'strongly agreed' that they were still making conscious choices about their use of plastic.
